Dan Brucker: Keeping Service on Track
This year, 1to1 Magazine's Customer Champion photo shoot was held at Grand Central Terminal. In addition to the shoot, the 1to1 Customer Champions - along with some members of the 1to1 Media staff - were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of Grand Central by Dan Brucker, media relations officer for Metro-North Railroad. Dan was also our primary contact for the coordination of the photo shoot at the world's busiest train terminal.
Dan is an everyday customer champion for a lot of reasons, but what comes through most of all is his love for the building and his commitment to the more than 700,000 customers that pass through Grand Central every day. (It's a policy at Grand Central to refer not to commuters or passengers, but customers.) When we approached Dan about the photo shoot, he offered to give us the tour. It was not on our agenda. He went onto create a great experience for all the 1to1 Customer Champions that were in attendance as we learned about the history - and the quirks of Grand Central.
The next day at the photo shoot, Dan went out of his way to ensure that everything we needed was taken care of - including access to the different areas of the terminal and coordination of the employees within Grand Central. We had the privilege of being Dan's customers for two days - and we can certainly see why Grand Central - and MetroNorth Railroad - is so efficient and successful. It is refreshing to meet someone who is literally on the ground floor, in one of the largest cities in the world, who understands the needs of the customer.
